Holiday Insurance & Swine Flu

NEWS ARTICLE ADDED: 12/06/2009

The increase in swine flu cases has lead the government to advise people travelling to Mexico only to go if your travel is necessary.

Some tour operators have cancelled some holidays and flights, but what does this mean to holiday makers?
If your tour operator has cancelled your trip you are entitled to re-arrange your holiday, choose a new holiday or recieve a full refund.

Your tour operator should in the first instance offer an alternative arrangements says the travel association ABTA. If this is not an option for you then a full refund will be given.

If your holiday is cancelled and you have holiday insurance cover this will normally cover the cost of cancelation. Holiday insurance normally covers the costs of illness and redundancy according to ABI (Association of British Insurers).

If you have paid by credit card this is also covered for amounts over £100, speak to your credit card company for details.

Although British Airways are still flying to Mexico city, BA says it will let worried passengers defer their bookings to a later date, or fly them to an alternative destination instead. The same goes for a combined flight and hotel deals.
