Air Travel Security - what we may expect
NEWS ARTICLE ADDED: 13/02/2010
Gordon Brown has ordered the introduction of full body scanners at all of Britains airports in the wake of the attempted plane attack on Christmas Day over Detroit.
The system of air passenger checks is changing in the UK with the introduction of an electronic scheme designed to count people as they leave and enter the UK.
E-Borders is a £1.2bn project which is an exceptionally complex and challenging programme to completely modernise UK border control and what is already in place by The UK Border Agency.
The Home Office has said that the scheme will be efficient although many travel companies remain sceptical.
The e-Borders scheme is part of a bigger worldwide shift in how government agencies manage and share passenger data. Some countries have already introduced passports that hold biometric data on a chip.
